The city of Seminole is the youngest city in
Pinellas County and is named after the Seminal Indians, very interesting people
in the past and even a more interesting people now.
History
references Seminole and the surrounding area as early as 1528. The invasion of
the peninsular land we now know as Pinellas County was made by the Spanish who

Meares Lake in Seminole City Park was the early homestead
of Albert and Deli Meares and their ten children about 1879, their home was the
local post office and families would gather to trade community news while
waiting for the mail to come from Clearwater via horse and carriage.
One
of the oldest cemeteries is located on 102nd Avenue. It is very small with a
metal fence around it. It is known as the Lone Pilgrim Primitive Baptist Church
Cemetery. Our earliest pioneers who helped mold our community are buried there.

Seminole Library was opened by the Seminole Ridge Business and Professional
Women's Club on July 1960. It opened with 3,500 hundred books It was located in
a small cottage at Park and Seminole Blvd. In 1971 a new library was opened at
11000 Johnston Blvd and had a collection of 15,000 books. The present Seminole
Library located at the St Petersburg College, Seminole Campus has a collection

Seminole
was formed as a city on November 15 in 1970. In 1995 the city council voted to
go from a mayor form of government to a Council/City Manager form of government.
Seminole has its own city hall and fire department.
Seminole City Park
is at 7464 Ridge Road and has a passive setting hidden from the hustle and
bustle of the city. It establishes a sense of community and a respect for
nature and good health. This city park hosts many community special events
including the annual Music in the Park and Movies under the Stars series.
The
Family Aquatic Center has many activities for the family. A 6 lane Junior
Olympic pool, kickboards, pull buoys, and staff members to aid with general
workouts, it is located in the Seminole Recreation Complex.
The Tennis
Club Park has 4 beautiful courts and a lovely park setting. It strives to
promote good health and a sense of achievement through the access to the game of

Seminole
Mall was listed as the Mall with the least number of reported crimes per 10,000
square feet in the Tampa Bay Area in 2007. The population is 18,739.
