The Indians named Clearwater. For a long time it
was known as Clearwater Harbor but it dropped the Harbor in1906. The area was
named for its fresh springs along the shore. It was settled by the colonists
in the 1830s. In 1890 Clearwater began drawing people to its resort community.

1822. In 1835 during the Seminole Indian wars the government built the original
fort Harrison fort as a sort of hospital for its soldiers. It was located in
