1890 railroad magnate Henry B Plant constructed his showplace hotel on a high
bluff. It had a railroad siding for the private cars of his wealthy patrons.
It was located just south of Clearwater in Belleair.
The
Belleview Biltmore had its Grand Opening in January 1897. Guests at the
Belleview enjoyed the amenities of regal, rustic living: yachting on Clearwater
Bay, horseback riding in the woods south of the hotel; golfing, tennis, skeet
shooting and bicycling. Bicycling found a home at the hotel and at the end of
the century became the scene for the Six Day Bicycle Races and other national
and international prominent cycling events. Belleair

SMALL WORLD!
In
1944 Mrs. Shillard-Smith a noted patron of the arts donated seven acres of land
to create the Florida Gulf Coast Art Center. The art center is an important
regional resource in the creative arts. Belleair also set aside land for the
town's beautiful system of parks and paths. This is a great place to bring up
children. Belleair Realty
